You should have access to all readings & all assignments every class (in print or on your laptop/phone). This is because we’ll likely refer back to previous assignments/readings. 

Drafts and worksheets highlighted in blue must be submitted on time to avoid any penalties. Submitting within 24 hours is acceptable (with penalty). See Grading Agreement for details. 

Peer reviews highlighted in yellow, if missed, can only be made up within 3 days by visiting the Writing Center (and providing proof of the visit). See Grading Agreement.

PHASE 1

Language & Literacy Narrative + Translation 1 Assignment

For Phase 1, you will analyze various texts and practice skills like rhetorical reading, narrative writing, and critical self-reflection. Among other smaller assignments, you will compose two Language & Literacy Narratives, one written and one spoken.

PHASE 2

Synthesis Essay + Translation 2 Assignment

During Phase 2, you will deepen your knowledge of language politics (or another topic) and practice engaging in academic research. You are asked to determine the audience and genre of your rhetorical situation and to then work to meet the expectations of this audience (or to intentionally not). Ultimately, you will locate and evaluate sources and compose the Synthesis Essay, which involves you introducing ideas/content, integrating and synthesizing sources, guiding readers, making clear your stance, and citing sources.
